Thanks to a post by Judy McConnell published on November 6th, I found out that Inspiration mind maps have finally moved onto a Web 2.0 platform.
Welcome Webspiration. The web site is in Beta mode at present, and I haven’t yet found out whether after their testing period, we will be charged. Watch this space and I will report back!

The usual excellent graphics sets are there, including communcation, technology, transport and many others but the superb thing I think is that groups can work together on the same mind map (like Google Docs) so working collaboratively will be a dream in the classroom.
You merely have to send an e-mail to the collaborator and then you can co-author the document, study guide, report, think-tank or whatever it is you and others are working on.
There is a fuller review of Webspiration by Brian Friedlander here.
Of course you will need access to an online computer and will have to login and create yourself as a user on the Webspiration website but I found it a breeze and was logged in very quickly. Another slight problem is that the platform supports Flash 10 so you will need to download the latest version.
I hope that you will have a chance to experiment with this excellent new teaching tool and PLEASE do post some of your mind maps below!

Carolynn,
Thanks for your email. At this time, Webspiration is free to use during the public beta period. In exchange, we’re asking for feedback regarding Webspiration’s capabilities and functionality. After collecting feedback we’ll have a better idea of a possible pay structure. That does mean I don’t have any news of a pay structure to share with you for now. Lastly, to date there is no fixed end time for the beta period.
Sincerely,
Mike Marsh

Hi Caro thanks for directing us to Webspiration. I have used Inspiration extensively over the years. Having an online version is really cool. I’m going to give it a try for my Intel online project. Collaboration is great.
